Southern Flinders Rough Riders' Riding Programme

SFRRRRR!! - a bit like CNNNNN but with even more dirt!

There is so much more out there now and we are pioneering in new tracks all the time so come along and join us for a ride! The last meeting we discussed a few options and we are going to try and have a monthly event whether that is a race or a BBQ and billy tea.

OK - so where are we going this month of Sundays (not forgetting that there are regular dawnbusters and night rides so just check with us at OTE on 8666 2222). Remember, all rides leave from OTE unless otherwise advised. Of course, things don't always go to plan but as Mr Curly found there is much to be said about the tyranny of the uninevitable..

SUNDAY 24th Aug - 9.45am -meet at OTE and drive (or ride the railway ramble) to The Spring Creek Copper Mine and on to the Goat Rock Waterfall. Warning: It is roaring at the waterfall and the creeks are flowing so you will potentially get wet feet, arms, legs, heads and ears.. This is an expedition so allow 4 hrs.

SUNDAY 31st Aug - WorldCup at Stromlo, Canberra. Well, Rich and Al will be there. In Melrose, there will be a quieter ride on somewhere. Check with Pip at OTE for suggestions.

SUNDAY 7th Sep - 9am Hard Core - The Dodging Bullets "Race" #2 (for those that missed #1) - Those that can get to OTE by 9am, we race up the monument track and head to the Showgrounds via Dodging Bullets - We will come up with some Prizes and Categories for the fast ones, the slow ones, the young ones, and the ones that still feel young.. some handicapping to make it fair. Finish with Skills session 10am- in the Showgrounds.

SUNDAY 14th Sep - 7.30am Hard Core - Warm Up on Weaving Camels and The Big Rhua and then into Hidden Valley on the new bit past the big gum. Blaze a trail up Blazing Saddles and down Throwing Copper to finish. 10am - Family Ride - Out to Barts and on the green Winery Loop. Skills in the quarry to finish.

For after the ride.. coffee, wine, a good lie down.. a lighter bike?

The couch kindly donated by Nicole and Michael Chaffey is now sitting in our shop so come by to recline, have a coffee after your ride and check out the new white Knolly Endorphin 5.5" travel bike INo sorry - Nicole just bought it. Oh well, you can see her riding it because the other demo is with Chris Southwood at Australian Mountain Bike mag getting reviewed. We have an anodised gun smoke grey Endorphin with bright green ergon grips though and a beautiful brilliant britannia Blue Delirium-T. Spot belt drive (Carbon Drive System - CDS) coming soon too - silent and great for those that like rubber and never luber..

Bartagunyah and Over The Edge collaborative Shiraz/Cabernet coming soon.. and a signature beer made using local hops (Dodonea viscosa angustissima). Should be interesting and hopefully not too poisonous..

Mountain Bike Code of Practice

This stuff below is important - "respect" and we'll all have a good time

  • Plan your ride
  • Obey "no bicycle' signs
  • Ride only on formed trails designated for cycling
  • Do not take short cuts or form new trails
  • Share the trail
  • Respect the rights of others
  • Avoid riding in wet, muddy conditions
  • Ride lightly and leave no trace or rubbish
  • Control your bike
  • Don't disturb plants and animals
  • Clean your bike, don't spread weeds or plant diseases
  • Tell other people about this code

Keep trails open by setting a good example of environmentally sound and socially responsible mountain biking.
