100% FAT - MELROSE FAT TYRE FESTIVAL - THE SUPER EIGHT
FRI 11 – MONDAY 14 JUNE 2010

MTB MADNESS IN MELROSE

Well, THE MAGNIFICENT 7 was a biggie. Troy, the originator of the FTF concept, left his mark and his running of the Clunker Crit was brilliant. There are some crazy pics going around on facebook. The AMB magazine guys were having a ball and thanks to them and all the other industry folk for coming aka OTE Fruita and Hurricane, Monza, Dirtworks, Orbea, Niteflux, Craftworks and EscapeGoat.

THE SUPER EIGHT IS LOOKING AWESOME WITH INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTARS SWEET BABY JAMES AND ROB EYERS playing on Saturday night.

"Sweet Baby James and Rob Eyers, these guys are fantastic, their two-piece guitar/drum combo outshoots the White Stripes, the Black Keys, the Mess Hall, the Fumes, anyone you care to mention"

Rhythms Magazine -

2010 KONA MAWSON MTB MARATHON

Where? Mawson Trail, Flinders Ranges
When?  8-12 June, 2010

The Kona Mawson MTB Marathon aims to re-define Mountainbiking Marathons in Australia. 350 KM of NON-STOP riding* on the Mawson Trail through the Flinders Ranges will get your heart and legs burning. James Williamson, '08 World Solo 24HR champion says "The Kona Mawson MTB Marathon is more than just an marathon. It's an epic adventure!"

*Possibility to ride in pre-set stages as well. Pairs ride non-stop. Solo and teams of three ride in stages.

Over $30,000 in both product and cash prizes!!

Some Details:

You've taken the brave decision to leave your comfort zone and join Bicycle SA for the marathon of a lifetime!

The Kona Mawson MTB Marathon is a true test of physical capacity, commitment and skill. The test is to ride the Mawson Trail from its northernmost outpost (the Blinman Hotel) to Melrose in the Southern Flinders Ranges, over 350km away. The net result is downhill, but only just, and there are plenty of ups to go with the downs. Combined with the Triple Peak Challenge - climbs on foot up St.Mary's Peak, Mount Brown and Mount Remarkable - the Kona Mawson MTB Marathon is the ultimate enduro. Many of the riders will take on the challenge in measured stages, overnighting in Rawnsley Park, Hawker and Quorn. But the holy grail of challenges is for those who take it all on in one go, non-stop. For riders in pairs there is the opportunity, once the flag goes down in Blinman, to simply race all the way to finish to be the inaugural Kona Mawson MTB Marathon champion ... or at least to gain a place on the podium. While the target for some is to be first across the line, the Kona Mawson MTB Marathon is designed to have you, your support crew and spectators enjoying themselves as you put yourself to the test, beyond what you thought you could achieve. If you're here simply for the personal challenge and the general camaraderie, you can still support the others who are riding non-stop. Your calls of encouragement are sometimes all that keeps them going; that and the thought of being on the podium and walking away with a portion of the huge prize pool.

There are many great locations along the Mawson Trail, perfect to view the action and enjoy the spectacular scenery. The Staging Posts are in busy towns (or in the case of Rawnsley Park, a busy tourism operation), where there's plenty to keep you occupied and nourished. Apart from the essentials (first aid and shelter), there'll be a great atmosphere with a few tunes and plenty of buzz. There may even be the occasional handful of jellybeans to grab as you pass through. Anything and everything to keep your legs pumping. Come up with a unique theme and dress your team and support crew in some stand-out garb and reap the respect of your fellow riders and maybe earn yourself an award for bravery. Outfits that challenge the principals of streamlining also earn a special mention. Everything from the brightest clothing to reindeer suits, Little Red Riding Hood, Wedding clothes, Pyjamas and togas have been seen on the trails in the past to great effect. It may be we're even graced with the presence of the Mawson Man, the mythical mountain biker sometimes seen in these parts, most often at dusk, riding in the distance just off the Mawson Trail wearing nothing but an Australian Standards bicycle helmet. You have been warned . More info

2011 OUTBACK ODYSSEY - ADELAIDE TO BLINMAN
SATURDAY 7 - SATURDAY 21st May 2011 (Dates could change)

Each day is an adventure. We ride. We eat. We drink. We have a laugh.

Then we get up in the morning and do it all over again!

Some days are hard, but the campsite is your home away from home - hot showers, massage and the Handle Bar, where you can put your feet up and enjoy a coldie and good company.

Then the sun dips. The stars come out... and the Mawson Man comes out to play! and the Wilkins Woman now too.. One thing you can say about this ride. Everyone just has the best time. Find someone that has done the Odyssey (many have done it over and over again) and they will fill you in. I am not sure Odysseus enjoyed all of his Odyssey (though the time spent with Circe probably wasn't all bad) but while this one has its fair share of Sirens and a few bodies get battered along the way, this journey is one of the richest experiences on fair Gaia that could well be penned in Homeric verse.

AND there's plenty of options to fit how long you have...

· Full Mawson: Adelaide - Blinman - 15 days :

· Mawson 1: Adelaide to Burra - 5 days :

· Mini Mawson 2: Burra to Melrose - 6 days :

· Mini Mawson 3: Melrose to Blinman - 6 days :

Numbers strictly limited to 200. Registrations will commence later this year.
Details will be posted online and in the BicycleSA's 2010 Go magazine due for release in October.

For more information visit www.bikesa.asn.au or call (08) 8168 9999.

If you are starting or finishing in Melrose, call into Over the Edge and slot in a ride here with us as well!

THE ADELAIDE MOUNTAIN BIKE CLUB'S MELROSE ENDURO RACE

SUN 18th JULY 2010

Some cool changes for 2010. OTE have been working with ADL MTB club and the current concept is looking like an endurance race taking looping through the singetrack of Melrose. Plenty of sketchy off-camber singletrack, rocks, and logs and kangaroos to dodge, mount and flow over.. Watch this space for updates. Should be a whole lot of fun - come early and get in some practice runs - this is the last Sun of the school hols.

See Geoff here on Stegosaurus on Bartagunyah making it look easy. A lot of fun (see video for a preview of the Bartagunyah tracks). Watch out for the "path of the bleating goat"..

THE MOVEMBER CHARITY RIDE: PT AUGUSTA TO MELROSE 7AM SUN 30TH 2010

Departs from Avanti Plus (52 Victoria Parade), Pt Augusta. Come along and we'll paint on a mo if you don't have one. All bikes welcome. Rich and Al doing it on a tandem and Sam Cowley is on his mountain bike so don't be afraid, it will be a long line.. Wear crazy stuff too but keep it cool so unfortunately no kilts but lap-laps will be fine though not sure if they come with much of a chamois. Finish at OTE for a BBQ and some wind down drinks..

Sarah Holmes - Aust ergon/squirt champion. This is the view of her ergon racing knicks disappearing into the distance that her competitors will just have to get used to. Ride Like a girl!

Fancy a DIRTY WEEKEND? 8-9 MAY 2010 CUDLEE CK ADELAIDE.

The secret ingredient - one small lick of the fly agaric mushroom just prior to racing. A hell of a lot safer than red bull! Just ask Phoebe!

You can walk the line a 1000 times and even a helmet this big cannot save you from this rock garden. Note the torn skins on the left thigh..

Troy and his funny face thingy.

Those Rooly Glasses are quite scary but if Bono wears them they must be good? (and Sarah too of course!)
