Drumming monkeys are booked for Fat Tyre – family fun event!

The Amazing Drumming Monkeys is an adorable little variety show aimed at 2 – 8 yr olds, and is also great entertainment for all ages. The 2 monkey puppets (Bongo & Congo) play African drums, lead audiences in songs & dances, and perform magic tricks and (low tech) special effects gags. The show also features beautiful positive messages, such as caring for our environment, and getting along with each other.
The Monkeys appeal to a great range of people, places, and events. The show has cute & funny monkeys for the kids, great drumming for the adults, variety segments for all ages, and a message for the world.
The monkey show is the brainchild of South Australian based percussionists, Xavier Beaubois and Troy Moore. The original idea for the monkeys came when Xavier’s daughter, Kira, laughed hysterically when Xavier used her toy monkey’s hands to play the drum. Xavier and Troy quit the bands they were in and set about developing the concept for the Amazing Drumming Monkeys and, as they say, the rest is history! Together they hope that the show will not only entertain but also positively influence current and future generations towards sustainability and peaceful coexistence.

There has been no overnight success for Mr. Paul Greene. He is living proof that it is hard work being lucky. For Greene it has been a long, slow, steady progression that has seen him become the respected musician he is today, and earned him the mantle of ‘Australia’s Hardest Working Musician’, as well as a legion of loyal fans and supporters. He has worked with some of the worlds most respected artists, including Rob Hirst and Jim Moginie from Midnight Oil, Ani Difranco, Patty Griffin, Alvin Youngblood-Hart, and even The Wiggles. He is also the new front man for Australian pub rock icons Spy V Spy.
Musically this new album ‘Behind The Stars’ comes from a place where his acclaimed release ’Everywhere Is Home’ left off: a groove that creates involuntary dancing (even in the car); infectious melodies; lyrics that make you forget it is a song, and feel more like a conversation with a dear friend.
However from the first track, it is obvious that something is different. The locks have been blown off. Somewhere in the dark corners of Greene’s soul, something that was under lock and key has gotten out! There are still the gentle moments that he is renowned for with songs like ‘Shine Like Gold’ and ’Work Love Dance Trust’, but this time it also rocks.
Of course we will also have more reasons for you to come up for a long weekend in Melrose – will keep you posted! There will be some pre Fat tyre Festival fun to be had!!!

Michael “sparky” Fitch signs 1 yr sponsor deal with OTE

Local electrician Michael Fitch who threw down the fastest lap at last years Dirty Weekend has agreed to race for 1 yr under the OTE banner promoting Melrose, Squirt and Rocky Mountain.
The 2012 Rocky Mountain Vertex 970 RSL is being built at OTE as we speak. The Vertex 29er comes with an awesome reputation combined with Sparky’s natural ability will hopefully put him on the podium in the upcoming state/interstate races this year.
Michael will soon be moving to Melrose to further hone his skills on the technical trails of Melrose.

Mountain bikers cross to the dark side!

The hot weather brought out some madness yesterday when the Melrose Mountain bikers decided to take to the road and play the Whyalla boys at their own game.
The MAD mile is a 6km circuit around the streets of Whyalla close to the velodrome.
With little wind the pace was fast and the sweat flowed freely in the 37 degree tempreture, this did not deter the 30 odd riders who were there for Danny Kings farewell ride as he heads back to Tasmania after competing in the Otway Odyssey.
Enthusiasm was high but experience was lacking unless your name is “Sparky Fitch” when after 5 laps his natural ability swept him to the finish line at 3rd place.
If you are keen to give it a go – give us a call we will try to go fortnightly whilst day light savings is still on. We will head over on the 28th Feb if anyone wanting to car pool!

That’s right folks Chris Jongewaard just got even faster now he is running Squirt dry chain lube. Late last year Chris signed with the Milka-Superior mountain bike team or Milka-Trek as it was known then.
